Bistrot Bistro

Country:
Kitsilano, Canada

Rating:
8.5/10

Yummy Foods:
Duck magret amaretto hazelnut was superb, the sauce was everything you'd expect from a French restaurant and more.
Their Coconut Curry Char was an amazing french style twist of what you'd expect at an Thai Resturant.
The pate was splendid, and they gave a surprising amount for an appetizer.
The Vanilla Bean crème brulee highlighted why vanilla is anything but plain.

Bad Food:
Bad? There wasn't any, though I'd recommend avoid flat out new york style strip steak because you should be there to enjoy the French styles and there's only so much you can do with a steak.

Descriptions:
I was craving French Food and decided to find a nearby restaurant. I happened upon this place that was simply out of this world. Located on 4th street it's close to the school too.

The food was sensational. A truly French homestyle cuisine paying careful attention to the sauces. Even the green salad was impressive simply because of a very unique dressing. You can get a 3 course prix fixe menu for 26 dollars so you can most certainly eat there without breaking the bank, but I'd recommend trying stuff off of the main menu as well. Even I, who am not a fan of scalloped potatos, enjoyed the gratin dauphinois with its rich flavor.

Lets also not forget the wine, which completes the dishes. Next to each menu item is the suggested wine paring, and they have a brilliant wine selection, not just "our house white and house red". In retrospect, if I had to get my duck again I might have gone with a slightly lighter Pinot Nior to the Stoneboat Pinotage, but the paring still was most certainly a compliment to the meal. I would highly recommend getting some wine to compliment your dishes.

If it had been a quiet restaurant I would have considered the atmosphere quaint, with the neat candles lining the back of the room, though it was still quite loud in there. Yet, if the room was loud, the food was screaming, you could not draw your attention from your meal.

Price wise it was not extreme either, it was not cheap, especially not for a student budget, but they give you a fair amount of food and exquisit preperation for something that won't utterly break the bank, provided you don't get too much wine.

I recommend anyone who loves French cuisine to visit this restaurant before leaving Vancouver. One final note, get there slightly early or make reservations, it was a Tuesday night and we got in but by the time we were ready to order our food the restaurant was full. There aren't many seats, so again, early or reservations.

Salade De Fruits

Country:
       Vancouver, Canada
Rating:
      8.5/10
Yummy Foods:
Canard (Duck with a crispy biscuit)
Moules (Mussels in a garlic, white wine cream sauce)
       Chicken Tortellini
Lamb (Slowly cooked for 13 hours)
Chocolate Cake (Bitter dark chocolate cake)
Baked Alaska (Ice cream surrounded by a meringue)
Bad Food:
Putine (Not bad, but you should definitely be eating other foods at this restaurant)
Descriptions:
Salade de fruits is my favourite restaurant in Vancouver so far. We ordered about half the menu and there was nothing that I wouldn't eat again. The atmosphere reminds me of a new york cafe I went to with my cousins. The place is small but lively with everyone enjoying their meals. The price is really good for the quality and quantity of the food. I wouldn't say I was full at the end of the meal, but I would definitely say I was more than satisfied. I think the real magic of the place is not its food, but its little touch of paris. The menu is all in french and the waiters are all french as well (They even have that comforting touch of arrogance, although the waiters were actually all extremely nice). As a signing off, Salade de Fruits, Je voudrais aller encore.

Mr. Chow

Country:
Beverly Hills, United States

Rating:
8/10

Yummy Foods:
The Peking Duck. Forget the cost and get it.
Steamed dumplings.

Bad Food:
While any entree other than the duck will taste good, you are to get the duck. All appetizers though should be fine, depending what they have each night

Descriptions:
You will see a star, someone you recognize from television, movies, sports, something, you will see one. You may not even know who, just say "hey, I think I recognize him/her", but it is fundamentally impossible to go there without seeing someone famous.

You might have trouble getting seated, there are a lot of people lined up, and the food takes a while to get.

I personally don't even know if they have menus, if they do they're certainly not constant, mostly you get whatever they want to give you, but make sure that you have the Peking duck. It's wonderfully well done, and difficult to get Peking duck at a restaurant simply because of the time required to set up the dish.

This is also one of the most expensive restaurants you can eat in. The food, while most certainly good, is rarely worth the price tag, this is a restaurant you go to if you're in LA and want to do the traditional Beverly Hills thing. Don't get me wrong, if you're coming to LA this is something you might want to experience, just don't cry when you see the bill.
